A social project for Junior High School

St. Mikael Usaba 5, West Kalimantan, Borneo

Hello, I am Cindy Guchi, originally from Jakarta, Indonesia. I studied in Hannover and Cologne (Germany) and now work in Cologne as an architect.

I believe education is the key for a nation and individuals to achieve a better future. Unfortunately, education in many rural areas in Indonesia still needs to be improved. There are still many children who have not received the education they should, either because of the high tuition fees or because of the non-existence of schools in the area. Due to a lack of education, many poor children or children in remote areas often do not even have the courage to dream for their future and have good life chances. Another main problem is that many schools in Indonesia still have poor infrastructure.

That is why I planned this social project, which supports a school in West Kalimantan, Borneo, namely SMP St. Mikael Usaba 5. A junior high school, located in a village next to jungles and far from infrastructure facilities. I cooperate with www.bugi-ev.org and the school foundation Usaba in Kalimantan for this project.

My first goal is to go and stay there for four months to give the children a workshop on personal growth and soft skills. I would love to share my experiences and motivate children too, so that they could get broader perspectives and empowerment for their self-improvement.

The school building is in terrible condition, with many parts of the building needing urgent maintenance. That is why my second goal during my stay is to organize renovation projects for the school, so that the children can have a better and safer school environment.

You can join in supporting the realization of this project with your contributions and donations too! All donations will be used for the school’s renovation project, e.g., the urgent renovation of the sanitary facilities. Whatever it is, it will mean a lot!

No matter how many donations are collected, I will bring them there and do the most I can for this project. And, of course, while I am there, I will be happy to update you directly on the project’s progress!

Read full stories (e.g., about my personal reasons and motivation for starting the project) and updates on my blog 🙂
